Sportsbooks Set Betting Odds for Phillies, Pirates Ahead of 2023 MLB Opening Day

Top Pennsylvania Sportsbooks, including DraftKings and FanDuel, have set their futures odds for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies ahead of opening day this week. 

For the Phillies, the beginning of the 2023 season cannot come soon enough after another injury-plagued spring training. Philadelphia’s loss of starting 1B Rhys Hoskins to a torn ACL will certainly damage the middle of the lineup as the team waits for superstar Bryce Harper to return from elbow surgery sometime mid-season.

In Pittsburgh, the Pirates are once again looking at a rebuilding their roster in 2023. With a mixture of salary-controlled youngsters and stars such as OF Bryan Reynolds on the club, the Pirates aren’t in the position to scare many teams but hope to make considerable strides this season.

While the Pirates continue to hold long odds to win their division, the Phillies are listed with the third highest odds in the NL East, behind the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets. The Phillies’ NL East title odds are +400 at FanDuel, while DraftKings has the club slotted at +425. 

The Pirates hold +3000 odds to win the NL Central, although they are not last as the Cincinnati Reds at +6000 to win the division on DraftKings. 

For the National League crown on FanDuel, the Phillies are fifth best at +750, while the Pirates hold the fourth worst odds to make it to the World Series at +8000.

Even though they aren’t favored to win their division, the Phillies hold impressive World Series odds as FanDuel lists the squad at +1500 to win it all. The Pirates hold +20000 odds, making them the seventh lowest team out of the 30 MLB clubs starting the season on March 30.

When it comes to player props, PA sports betting outlets have installed Phillies SS Trea Turner as one of the top favorites for the NL MVP. At DraftKings, Turner holds +800 odds to win MVP, while over at FanDuel, the shortstop offers a nice value play at +1100. 

When it comes to the NL CY Young, Phillies ace Aaron Nola ranks eighth over at FanDuel with +1300 odds, with FanDuel slightly better at +1200.

The Pirates do not have much representation among NL player props although budding superstar SS Oneil Cruz holds +5000 odds to win MVP at DraftKings, while at FanDuel, the sportsbook slots the Pirates 2nd year player at +10000.
